I love color. It can create personality. It can evoke emotion. You can get so much variety during the session just from switching out color schemes. I have a lot of different colors and patterns to choose from in my studio for sessions.
I always ask parents what they would like for color schemes during their session. I ask them to think about the decor in their home or nursery. What will go well with the rest of your home? Because ultimately, you want to hang up these beautiful artworks on your walls. And you want things to go well with the rest of your home's color scheme. Colors and themes complimenting each other in your home can lessen your stress by being pleasing to your eye and brain. Do you know what else can lessen stress? Looking at your sweet sleepy baby's photos on your wall.
I like to keep color schemes monochromatic- one color. This can add drama to the photo and keep it aesthetically pleasing while keeping baby the main focus. It's fun to add a pop of different color to a setup. Patterned wraps or backdrops can create this effect. Or adding in some flowers or greenery. But I like to keep patterns to a minimum. One pattern per setup to keep the photo less busy. We also need to make sure that our pop of color can compliment the rest of the photo. Colors should not clash. Adding complimentary colors like yellow with purple draws in your eye and keeps it looking as it creates a pleasing interest in the photo.
I love using different textures of fabrics in the same color scheme. Furs with knits or cheesecloth can add depth and, again, create interest. It can also give the photo a certain feel. For example, adding in a macrame layer can give us a boho feel, or adding lace can give it a vintage feel. Both are popular in home design right now and can really compliment your style, whatever that may be.
Don't be afraid to ask my opinion on what will go well in your home. I would love to give you some suggestions! Also, don't hesitate to ask me to switch out a certain color or setup if you don't think it will go well with your aesthetic. Ultimately, I want you to be happy with the end result so that you will hang these photos up on your walls!
